One of the most well-known Bali places of interest is Beji Temple, which is located in Sangsit Village, some eight kilometers east of Singaraja. If you didn’t know where it was, you could easily walk right by it. If you are traveling from Singaraja, keep an eye out for the little sign on the left side of the road. Down to the shore, take the dusty path. The temple is regarded as one of Bali’s oldest, having been constructed during the Majapahit period in the fifteenth century. As a subak temple, it is devoted to the goddess Dewi Sri, who guards the rice fields that are watered. In actuality, a well served as the foundation for the temple.

The district or region of Buleleng was reportedly known as the Den Hill area before to the entrance of the Dang Hyang Nirartha era. When humans first arrived in Bali, they settled in the Buleleng region in the east. The idea foresaw Padma Bhuwana in Bali’s temple layout at the outset of its development. The Beji Temple is one of the temples, especially in the region east of Buleleng.

As it developed, MPU Kuturan arrived, followed by the Dang Hyang Nirartha era in Waturenggong Dalem, when the idea of Padma Bhuwana was supposedly more relaxed and applied to the whole Bali region. For example, Besakih’s construction and development made it seem as though Goda Jagat still existed today. Tanah Lot, Uluwatu, Goda Jagat Pura Luhur Batukaru, and Goa Lawah are a few of these. During that time, the eastern Buleleng district of Waturenggong was considered an unsuitable place to live.

even after it was turned into a disposal site, which included getaways like Anglurah Ki Panji Sakti. Although there is no precise information on when it occurred, Beji Temple, also known as the Subak Temple for Sangsit Pakraman, is said to be the temple compound to worship Dewi Sri, the goddess thought to be connected to the agricultural fields that produce rice as a staple food and bring prosperity.

The events seemed to be connected to the ornamental shapes that are found throughout the hallowed Beji Temple building, the vines that encircle groups of buildings, or the pelinggih that were there. For a brief moment at the temple’s entrance, the magnificent Kori worship had full-size blossoms that were characteristically Buleleng: cukilan wide, shallow but pointed.

Doctrine Philosophy

Berdigestilir flowery tendrils are symbolic of fertility and prosperity in philosophy, and the usage of plants or flowers as theme carvings at Beji Temple is actually one way that Hinduism’s philosophy (tatwa) teachings are expressed through symbols of sacral relief. The three regions (mandala) that make up the Beji Temple order are the offal, center jaba, and compound side. A bale Jaba acne that has been altered in terms of decorating style is located on the side.

A short temple that yet has the uniqueness of the ornamental Buleleng connects the Jaba side to the center. A bale and bale saka paebatan Roras were located on the north side of a compound page. All of the structures on the south side of the Bale Sakapat and Sakaulu were made of masted wood and had tin roofs. Using his right bebetelan, he enters the page on the left without any temple brackets (kori agung).

For a limited period, floral carving motifs are also highly prevalent in the temple. There is no protective cover behind the arching of the Great Kori. There were also two bale Piasan (saka nem on either side of the roof shingles), gedong grand (thatched roofed on the fourth ridge there is a relief dragon), gedong simpen (roofed), bale congregation called parallelogram samah (Preferred Roras thatched roofed), and gedong gong (Preferred Kutus tin-roofed) on the page offal. At the top of the roof is a small statue of angel wings.

Palinggih Bagus Ngurah Pengastulan lotus deity and pelinggih gedong Ida Ayu god Batara Kesaren are located on the left side of the major ancestral shrines. The pelinggih lotus god Bagus Ngurah Beraban, where there are ranks or pasimpangan, is located in the northeast corner. One of the local stakeholders claims that the original sandstone (Sangsit Face) of Banjar Abasan was used to construct the shrine, which includes the temple briefly, kori agung, and panyengker puranya wall.

Spiritual Activities

Because of the unique construction of the Beji Temple, it serves as a virtual community communication tool. The architecture of Beji Temple is a cultural artifact that serves as a container for spiritual activity by providing clarity of identity or identities through the inferred message conveyed by form view and sculptures. It’s possible that Beji Temple was built when the Balinese agreed with the old undagi’s comprehensive design.

They have witnessed the fundamental spiritual requirements of local communities, as well as sentiments of belonging, territorial pride, and earnest respect for the One God of the universe’s creation. Manifestations are the artistic expression and standards of human love in the universe, which is life-giving and complimentary. Examine how religious activity affects people on a human level as part of the program design. Observe the mystery that underlies human behavior in their actions, as well as perspectives on life and the relationship between humans and nature.

On the one hand, the existence of residential areas, rice fields, and other physical features of the surroundings influences how the temple’s architecture is really realized. Therefore, the mission of Beji Temple, which is owned by true identity, is to preserve Bali’s cultural legacy, which must be upheld by continuing to implement the idea of social unity that promotes the development of Bali’s civilization.

This should ultimately result in the preservation of Beji Temple’s existence, as seen in the area of physical unit conservation (kesatuan kelompok buildings with physical identity), which can provide a detailed explanation of the physical history of Pura Beji buildings and the surrounding area. Or was incorporated into the unit’s visual perspective, a visual identity that serves as the region’s image.

In addition to maintaining the original visual background that is already in alignment, such as pattern, shape, scale, color, texture, material, and ornamentation of sacred buildings or building complement, the Beji Temple setting should be preserved as a piece of historical architecture. Puranya architecture and identity providers are features of the ornamental Sangsit of Beji Temple.

Since 1990, Bali’s original crispy duck has been served at Bebek Bengil Restaurant, along with duck satays, smoked duck (which must be requested a day in advance), and a variety of other international and Indonesian dishes. The first eatery is situated in the Padangtegal village of Ubud, halfway along Jalan Hanoman, before the turn right that takes you to the well-known Ubud Monkey Forest Sanctuary. The eatery is a part of the Agung Raka group, which also owns the Agung Raka Fine Art Gallery, the Agung Raka Bungalows, and another Bebek Bengil restaurant further along Jalan Monkey Forest Road.

The first and original Bebek Bengil Restaurant 1 offers roomy dining areas with pleasant views during the day thanks to its well designed gardens and landscaping that draws inspiration from the adjacent natural rice fields. The restaurant has outdoor seating in its gardens and wooden-based decor with raised platforms and two levels of possible dining areas. Satays, fish and chips, finger snacks, and, of course, the most well-liked crispy duck—which is steamed with a mixture of Balinese spices and then swiftly deep-fried at a high temperature for a very crispy outcome and exquisite taste—are examples of innovative a la carte dishes.

The menu at Bebek Bengil Restaurant also features a variety of western appetizers and snacks, including grilled chicken sandwich with focaccia bread, clubhouse sandwich, fish and chips, Ginger Rogers chicken salad with pineapple and cashews, roasted tomato salad, organic green salad tossed with avocado and tomatoes, and guacamole served with melinjo or paddy oat crackers. The signature dish of Bebek Bengil, crispy duck, is served with Indonesian veggies and either steamed white or yellow rice with turmeric or sautéed potatoes and a side salad.

There are three types of chicken available: teriyaki, Kiev, and ginger chicken. A flock of ducks from the nearby rice field quacking dashed inside the diner one tropical monsoon morning as construction was almost finished, leaving muddy footprints all over the place, including the floor and tables. This incident served as the inspiration for the diner’s name. Bebek Bengil Restaurant 2 is a second location located just up Jalan Monkey Forest. The Bay Bali Nusa Dua, a beachside restaurant in the top destination, is the newest addition to the restaurant brand’s portfolio.

This most recent addition offers a distinctive diversion from its two original sites in the central highlands, including Ubud. Even though patrons are accustomed to simply strolling in and selecting their preferred accessible area, Bebek Bengil Restaurant is frequently filled on any given day. Although the former is far more prevalent, reservations are advised.

Good to Know About Bebek Bengil Restaurant

A flock of ducks from the nearby rice field quacking dashed inside the restaurant one tropical rainy morning as construction was almost finished, leaving muddy footprints all over the floor and tables. This incident served as the inspiration for the restaurant’s name. Bebek Bengil 2, located just up Jalan Monkey Forest, is a new restaurant in the chain. Since then, other locations have sprung up all over the island, including one at The Bay Bali Nusa Dua, which essentially functions as a beachside site in a posh tourist attraction. Even while regular diners are accustomed to simply stepping in and picking their own favorite and available spot, the original Ubud restaurant nevertheless frequently gets filled on any given day. However, reservations are advised, particularly if you’re traveling in a big group.

Bebek Bengil Restaurant History

Bebek Bengil (Dirty Duck Diner), which opened in 1990, offers excellent service and delectable food in a welcoming, cozy, and laid-back setting. The unusual name “BebekBengil” has many people wondering. When we were constructing the restaurant, the story started. We gave significant consideration to choosing a fitting name for the eatery. Some alternatives were given to us, but none of them seemed ideal. We were looking for a Balinese name that would be easy to translate into English. A flock of ducks from the rice fields across the road (yes, there were rice fields all around us back then!) ran quacking and squawking into the restaurant one tropical monsoon morning just as we were almost done (we had the concrete floor down and the tables in) and stepped on the floor and tables. Their tracks were everywhere, filthy and webbed. These “Dirty Ducks” were our first visitors.

One of Bali’s most well-known points of interest is Batukaru Temple, which is situated in the west of the island in the Wangaya Gede region, Penebel District, and Tabanan regency. One of Bali’s most important temples, Pura Luhur Batukaru, is situated at the base of the namesake Mount Batukaru. Locals call it such. Situated on Bali’s second-highest summit, after Mount Agung, at 2,270 meters above sea level, the temple is encircled by cool natural forests, making it a great place for nature enthusiasts to stop and enjoy the scenery.

How to Get to Batukaru Temple

The Batukaru Temple is situated in the western region of Bali Island, in the Wangaya Gede countryside, Penebel District, and Tabanan regency. Since Batukaru Temple and Pura Luhur Batukaru are not accessible by public transportation, your only options are to drive yourself or take a guided Bali tour. Be advised that most highways pass via Tabanan before continuing on the signs to Batukaru Mountain if you are driving alone. Since the temple is more of a local destination, the journey isn’t well-publicized, but many villagers can provide you instructions.

Best Time to Visit Batukaru Temple

The biennial “Piodalan” temple anniversaries, which take place every Thursday following the Galungan festivities, are the ideal opportunity to visit Batukaru Temple. The pilgrimage day is one of the most memorable occasions of the year at Batukaru Temple. Thousands of local Balinese Hindus visit Batukaru Temple on this day to pray before ascending Batukaru Mountain. The spectacle of thousands of pilgrims climbing the mountain road is undoubtedly something to witness, even though some parts of the temple might not be open to visitors on this particular day.

What to Expect at Batukaru Temple

The state temple for the Tabanan monarchs was Batukaru Temple, also known as Pura Luhur Batukaru, which is a serene, spiritual, and off-the-beaten-path location. The temple’s design is similar to that of other parts of Bali; it has three courtyards, each of which is joined by a split or closed gate. There are numerous shrines with tiered roofs on Batukaru Temple’s main structure, and the complex is full of old buildings that are extensively covered with green moss. Numerous shrines may be found within the walled precincts, along with tall ‘MERU’ towers and ‘BALE’ pavilions that are distinctly ancient Balinese in their ornate wall carvings and dark grass roofs.

Three Meru of three, five, and seven layers honor the deified ruler of Tabanan in the compact and orderly inner courtyard. It features shrines for the three mountain lakes—Lake Tamblingan, Lake Buyan, and Lake Beratan—as well as a seven-roofed Meru dedicated to Maha Dewa, the mountain’s guardian spirit. There are numerous courtyards inside the complex, sparsely positioned and on different heights, connected through a network of floral gardens and statue-lined steps. A freshwater spring located inside the main temple courtyard provides the sacred water for rituals and prayers. Rituals for purification and cleaning are performed at a different spring.

Batukaru Temple History

There is no historical fact to disclose the history of the temple except manuscripts called Kusuma Dewa, and the manuscript about the Buleleng kingdom in the 17th century. In Kusuma Dewa mentioned that Mpu Kuturan, a priest from Java who was in Bali around the 11th century ordered the construction of Sad Kahyangan (6 main temples on each of the directions). Batukaru Temple is mentioned as one of the Sad Kahyangan and is dedicated to the god of west direction. The manuscript of Buleleng kingdom mentions that when the kingdom of Buleleng (now Singaraja) had been very prosperous and peaceful, the king Panji Sakti wanted to extend his empire and looked for possible attack targets.

When the monarch and his army finally reached Batukaru temple, the book states that the I Gusti Panji Sakti attacked and destroyed the temple for no apparent cause. He was soon attacked by thousands of bees, and the troops who were pursuing them all fled in droves. It appears that the authors of this article attempted to misinterpret the circumstances and lacked empathy for Buleleng. There is another tale of a Bali king who was eventually overthrown by a more religious government and who shared Usana Bali’s views on religion and its effects on society.

The year 1605 AD is mentioned in Buleleng’s manuscript. Similar to the water fountain stone sculpture at Goa Gajah, Gianyar, there are several stone sculptures that feature water fountains. This ancient sculpture may have come from the same era, the 11th century, according to Dr. R. Goris’ book. The temple was gradually restored from the ruins in 1959 to its current architectural state in 1977.

Batukaru Temple Entrance Ticket

There is no admission fee to Batukaru Temple, although donations are appreciated, particularly from foreign tourists. This is never more than IDR 20,000 and is frequently used as leverage in the form of sarong rental. Although there have been a few isolated cases of overcharging, it is wise to seek your guide for assistance if you believe that prices have changed. For a nominal payment of IDR 5,000, visitors can use the temple’s on-site restrooms.

One of the most visited places of interest in Bali is Batuan Temple, a Balinese Hindu temple that is maintained by the people who live in the Batuan area. The roof of the temple building is built of the fiber of a chromatic black palm tree, and the temple is elegantly designed with many Balinese embellishments. Batuan has been a village of artists and craftspeople, ancient folklore, and enigmatic stories for more than a millennium.

The founding of Batuan Temple took place in 944 Isaka (1020 AD). The temple, which is about a thousand years old, belongs to the Puseh Temple category and was founded on the Tri Kahyangan or Tri Murti philosophy that Mpu Kuturan taught the Balinese Hindu society in the tenth century.

How to get to Batuan Temple

You can take a bemo minibus from Batubulan, rent a scooter, or rent a car with a driver to travel to Batuan Temple, also known as Pura Puseh Batuan, which is conveniently located and easily accessible from anywhere in Bali. As previously said, Batuan Temple is situated next to the main road that connects Denpasar and Ubud in the center of Batuan Village. Additionally, the site has a large complex of shrines spread across 0.65 hectares.

Simply follow the Bali Mandara Toll Road if you’re traveling from the Nusa Dua region. In Batuan, proceed along Jl. Nusa Dua, Bandara Ngurah Rai, Benoa Toll Road, Mandara Toll Road, Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai, Jl. Raya Batubulan, and Jl. Celuk Sukawati/Jl. Raya Celuk, which will lead to Jl. Raya Batuan. Depending on traffic, it will take an hour to drive from Seminyak or 24 kilometers away by vehicle or scooter, and 40 minutes from Sanur. However, it only takes 20 minutes to travel the 9.8-kilometer journey by vehicle or scooter if you’re coming from Ubud.

What to Expect at Batuan Temple

The roof of Batuan Temple, also known as Pura Puseh Batuan, is composed of the fiber of a chromatic black palm tree and is decorated with full Balinese ornamentation. A parking lot is also available at the temple, and Wantilan, a standing ancient edifice, serves as a meeting space for practicing various Balinese dances, including Gambuh and Pendet dances. A traditional Balinese costume called a “kamben” will be lent to you by the people of Wantilan before you enter the temple. Keep in mind that wearing it is required to demonstrate dignity and respect. There are no admission fees, and it’s entirely free. However, residents anticipate donations in their donation box, regardless of the size, as it is just for temple upkeep.

Medana punia” is what Balinese call to the sincerity of every donation that you give. In the central courtyard of the temple there is a long building called Bale Agung and Bale Kulkul (made gong by wood or bamboo). In this courtyard there is also the entrance of the High Gate of Bali called Kori Agung, which is flanked by many statues of giant sculpture guards. Kori Agung’s function is the doorway where the entrance and entry of the gods is represented by a small statue called Pratima. There are two little doorways next to Kori Agung that serve as entry and departure points to the temple’s main courtyard. Then, as a representation of Besakih temple, there are around three storeys of Meru and Bale Pengiyasan in the temple’s main courtyard. Additionally, there is a structure called Padmasana that serves as a place of devotion for Sang Hyang Widhi, the sole Balinese Hindu deity.

In addition to radiating strong spiritual energy, the Batuan Temple, also known as Pura Puseh Batuan, has historical significance. As you can see, there are a lot of fascinating prehistoric artifacts. How does the natural stone in this temple, which is a site of worship for both their ancestors and the Hindu gods, reflect the influence of Hindu culture in Bali? There are some old and unusual statues that will astound you. This Pura Puseh’s numerous statues can be divided into a variety of categories. These include the statues of Dwarapala, Embodiment, Animals, Demons (Time), Phallus, and the status of holding chickens, among many others.

Batuan Temple History

Because batu means stone in Balinese, the moniker Batuan or Baturan given here makes the villagers laugh about being tough as stone or eating boulders. However, it probably alludes to an old megalithic custom when standing stones were used as gathering spots and ceremonial locations for ancestral spirit worship. The settlement has an unusually high proportion of brahmans since Batuan developed into a hub from which Buddhist priests and brahmans traveled to the major court cities of south Bali.

The maintenance and conservation of the temple’s architecture and surroundings are major concerns for the local population. Not every structure in this area is old; some have been renovated, renewed, and altered from the 10th to the 13th and even the 18th centuries AD. This temple’s foundation and structure are incredibly robust and durable. Every building in this temple complex features exquisitely carved native Balinese ornamentation. The Ramayana Epic tale is reflected in several ornaments, and each sacred structure serves a distinct philosophical purpose.

Batuan Temple Entrance Ticket

Although there is no admission charge to Batuan Temple, locals anticipate that visitors will contribute a certain sum to help with temple upkeep. A straightforward donation box is available. “Medana punia” is what the Balinese term it, and it should be the foundation of every donation you make. Additionally, please always act with respect. When visiting this temple complex, wear a sarong and cover your shoulders and knees to avoid being seen.

Barong and Kris Dance portray a giant lion-like beast represented by two males, while Rangda represents the embodiment of evil, with long fingernails and sagging breasts. Barong is going about his business when he is disturbed by Rangda; eventually, a conflict breaks out and the Barong followers begin assaulting Rangda with their Keris (daggers). Rangda is a witch who can utilize magical abilities to turn daggers against their owners, who go into a trance and attempt to stab themselves.

The gamelan, a Javanese and Bali-specific musical ensemble, produces rhythms that are strongly linked to the movement of Balinese dance. Layers of percussion sounds are reflected by the coordination of several levels of articulations in the face, eyes, hands, arms, hips, and feet. The purpose of the Barong and Kris Dance is to ward off evil spirits and is done when there is illness or bad luck in the hamlet. People congregate at Pura Dalem, the funerary temple.

Beautiful umbrellas are utilized in the temple, and women are carrying the offerings. The dance is done whenever sickness or misfortune is prevalent in the hamlet. Demons and evil spirits approach the settlement from the sea’s direction. Since the struggle will go inconclusive, the harmony in the universe is verified by reliving the tale of the widow Rangda and Barong. People in every region of Bali invoke the spirit to guard the land and woods. Barongs come in several varieties. The mask the lead character wears—the barong—determines the dance’s name.

The Barong is defined in each different region as a different animal :

A Wild Pig

A Tiger

A Snake

A Dragon

A Lion

Kris and Barong Typically, two men with eerie lion masks perform dance. He embodies the positive and rattles his mouth nonstop. The evil witch Rangda, who has terrifying eyes and hair, is his opponent. The purpose of the dance is to ward off evil. The meaning of the word “barong” is not well explained. But Barong also goes as Banaspati Raja, which means “King of the jungle.” The Barong Keket is the traditional barong. There is no animal that this relates to. Additionally, there are two other forms: Barong Landung, which consists of two enormous puppets that enact a conversation and sing folk songs, and Barong Berutuk, which consists of young men wearing masks wrapped in banana leaves.

The Story of Barong And Kris Dance

According to legend, Erlangga’s father punished his mother, Rangda, for engaging in black magic. Erlangga was the king of Bali in the eleventh century. Following her widowhood, she called forth all of the demons, leaks, and other terrible spirits in the bush to pursue Erlangga. There was a battle, but she and her army of dark magic were so powerful that Erlangga had to call on Barong for assistance. A struggle broke out when Barong arrived with Erlangga soldiers.

By directing their poisoned keris toward their own chests and bellies, Rangda created a spell that caused all of the Erlangga warriors desire to commit suicide. Barong used a spell to make their body impervious to the jagged keris. Barong ultimately prevailed, and Rangda fled. There is disagreement regarding the Barong people’s origins.

There are several legends of the Barong And Kris Dance, here is the two versions :

1) The original Barong version, in which Bedulu—likely Bali’s capital—is mentioned in passing. To rid the island of the plague, the gods commanded the populace to create a barong. The Barong had to walk around collecting money and offerings during Galungan, the biggest Balinese celebration.

2) The demon Jero Gede Mecaling is linked to the barong in another tale. To destroy everything on Bali, this demon arrived in the form of a barong with his companions. Only a similar barong with followers, according to a priest, could drive them out. As a result, the Barong may be utilized to drive evil forces and illness away.

How to Get to Banjar Hot Spring

Banjar Hot Spring is located in Banjar Countryside, Banjar Subdistrict, Singaraja Regency. The address is Jalan Banjar, Kec. Banjar, Kabupaten Buleleng, Bali 81152. It is around 10 kilometers from Lovina Beach and 2.5 hours from Bali Airport.

Best Time to Visit Banjar Hot Water Spring

The ideal time to visit Banjar Hot Spring is in the morning when the pools are still peaceful. The centuries-old hot springs have been refurbished with contemporary facilities and are now a popular retreat and leisure spot for locals and foreign visitors. A ticket office is located at the springs site entrance, next to a parking spot.

Banjar Hot Spring History

Banjar Hot Spring was developed during Japan’s rule of Indonesia. It is thought that Japanese colonists erected it hundreds of years ago. They claim that the hot water may treat skin disorders. This hot spring features three swimming pools for bathing. The first is positioned at the top and has a depth of one meter. The swimming pool is 12 meters long and 1.5 meters broad. The second swimming pool is 12 meters long and 10 meters broad, and it is positioned beneath the first one. The swimming pool’s depth varies from one to two meters. The third swimming pool is located in the west; it has three showers with a height of three meters, and the pool depth is up to an adult’s waist.

Facilities at the Banjar Hot Spring

A ticket office is located next to the parking lot at the entrance to the spring site. Cars and buses stop here, but motorbikes can go along the row of shops to a smaller parking spot next to a roofed stone gate with the signage “Permandian Air Panas” – ‘hot water bathing location’. The souvenir stores that line the walkway before the stone gate sell a wide range of things, including framed art, handicrafts, souvenirs, Bintang shirts, batiks, and colored garments. Following the gate, there is a short pathway and bridge over a small river that leads to another flight of steps. From here, the first smaller pools can be seen, with spouts gushing upon guests enjoying the calming splashing.

A snack and refreshment shop is located farther up the steps. The hot springs complex is divided into four main pool areas, the largest and central of which include a restaurant positioned high above the northern side. There are bathrooms, lockers, and changing rooms next to the restaurant, as well as a spa and massage facility. The bathing pools are built around the hot water spring source and have a tiered design. The first level has eight dragon spouts, as well as a smaller pool bordering this portion. The center bathing pools’ vast size allows families to enjoy a calm swim. The big central pool is located at the second level.

What to Expect at Banjar Hot Spring

Because of the high sulphur concentration in the water, hot water springs give both a recreational and therapeutic experience. The yellowish-red sedimentation at various spots around the pool walls and spouts demonstrates this. The structure is believed to have been expanded during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia during World War II. At the time, the hot springs’ waters were recognized to treat a variety of cutaneous and rheumatic illnesses. Banjar Hot Spring continues to give a pleasurable and health-beneficial escape in the hills of the north for people seeking relaxation, pleasure, sightseeing, and a unique experience. Those who do not want to swim can relax in the beautiful tropical gardens, take in the view from above at the Komala Tirta Restaurant, or buy for gifts in the rows of art stores close outside.

Bali Museum is one of Bali’s most well-known tourist attractions, located on Jalan Major Wisnu in the heart of Denpasar. The magnificent Jagatnatha temple is located to the north, while the famed Puputan Badung (Badung Courtyard) and the four-faced monument (Catur Muka monument) are located in front of it (west). The land is 2,600 m2 and is divided into three yards: outside yard (jaba), middle yard (jaba tengah), and internal yard (jeroan), which are enclosed by a wall and gate.

How to Get to Bali Museum

Bali Museum is centrally located on Jalan Mayor Wisnu, Dangin Puri, Denpasar, Bali 80232. The magnificent Jagatnatha temple is located to the north, while the famed Puputan Badung (Badung Courtyard) and the four-faced monument (Catur Muka monument) are located in front of it (west). The Bali Museum is 15 kilometers from Ngurah Rai Airport, and it takes 1 hour or roughly 30 kilometers to go there from Ubud.

What to Expect at Bali Museum

The second question is, “What is the benefit of visiting the Bali Provincial State Museum?” This is undoubtedly a question for individuals who have never visited the museum. The Bali Provincial State Museum is an ethnographic museum. As a result, you must have an interest in history or like seeing traditional Balinese architecture. However, suppose you have no interest in Balinese antiquity. In that situation, you would find it difficult to reap the benefits of visiting the Museum. The Bali Provincial State Museum varies from the present Museum at Ubud tourist destinations. The Bali Museum houses a historically significant art collection from Balinese culture. Museum collections include anthropological materials such as ancient equipment, religious and customary ceremonial objects, and occasional Balinese art and cultural development. By seeing the museum collection, you will be able to compare the evolution of a Balinese culture from prehistoric to present times.

What You Can See at Bali Museum

As one of the museums in Denpasar that is highly comprehensive with historical stories from Bali’s culture, and has various collections of ancient civilizations found in Bali, which will contribute to your full understanding of this treasured and very distinctive island of Bali. The object collections or ancient tools kept at Bali Museum can be classified into three categories: prehistoric objects such as tombstones (sarkophags), historical objects such as Stupika clay containing the mantra ‘Ye te’, bronze statues (Arca Perunggu), and ethnographic objects such as Kris, Endek material, religious ceremony equipment, and Sidakarya mask.

Prehistoric object collections include the Grave Petrify (sarkophag), historical object collections such as stupika clay containing superstitious formula Ye Te, bronze statues (Hindu and Buddha statues), ethnographic object collections such as Keris, Endek Cloth, and religious ceremony equipment (Sangku, Cecepan, and Sidakarya mask), as well as some unique collections that are equally interesting. These are some prehistoric collections that you can view here, which are ideal for those of you who enjoy history and wish to learn about the history of Bali’s progress from the past to the present, as well as the developments from one era to the next.

Bali Museum History

The fall of the Kingdom of Klungkung to Dutch colonists on April 28, 1908 marked a shift in power in Bali, which became Dutch colonial territory. This condition caused a shift in Bali’s government from being fairly closed to outsiders to becoming more accessible to Europeans, particularly the Dutch, during the European colonial period in Indonesia. All other international nations become increasingly free to visit Bali. They are made up of diverse social classes who frequently carry Balinese souvenirs back to their home countries.

This situation put the existence of Balinese cultural legacy in jeopardy, prompting Dutch scientists, culturalists, and artists to work to avoid it and preserve it. The architect W.FJ Kroon (1909-1913), who was also an assistant resident of southern Bali in Denpasar, came up with the basic plan for the Bali Museum. The plan was achieved with the development of a structure named Gedung Arca in 1910, and the architects that created the Bali Museum were I Gusti Gede Putu Kandel from Banjar Abasan and I Gusti Ketut Rai from Banjar Belong, together with a German architect, Curt Grundler.

Funds and supplies were donated by the Kings of Buleleng, Tabanan, Badung, and Karangasem. The chairman of the antiquities service at the time was W.F Stturterhim, who continued efforts to complete the ethnographic treasury in 1930. To simplify museum management, a foundation was founded, chaired by H.R Ha’ak, with its members and personnel. In 1932, the Bali Museum was opened to the public, and it became a museum for keeping human artifacts and ethnography. The museum’s collection includes ethnographic materials like as tools and equipment for daily living, art, religion, written language, and others that depict the history of Balinese culture.

Bali Museum Geography

The museum building is created in the traditional puri or royal architecture of Denpasar, with a museum complex pavilion depicting many regencies on the island of Bali. So you can visit the Bali museum and view diverse historical relics of each district, and the uniqueness and beauty of each district will broaden your perspective. In one spot, you can learn about the history of the entire island of Bali, making it an ideal museum for travelers. For students interested in learning more about the island of Bali, the location of the Bali Museum is as follows:

Tabanan Pavilion : Located in the north, it houses collections of keloksi such as dance equipment, dancing costumes, several types of dance masks, wayang kulit, keris (traditional Balinese sword) for Calonarang, and some antique statues from the Tabanan region.

Buleleng Pavilion: Located in the heart of the structure, it has a characteristic temple design in North Bali and houses a variety of collections, including Balinese costumes from Buleleng, traditional fans manufactured in Buleleng many years ago, and other interesting artifacts discovered.

Badung Pavilion: Located at the entry with a towering bale kulkul, it houses a variety of prehistoric items utilized by people throughout hunting and farming, agriculture, and metallurgical times in antiquity, as well as a collection of Bali’s fine arts.

Karangasem Pavilion: Located in the eastern portion of Bali, this pavilion depicts traditional architectural art from that region. This structure has many exhibitions of paintings, fine arts, archeology, and prehistoric relics with a rich history.

The Bali Museum spans 2600 square meters and features three courtyards: exterior (jaba), middle (jaba Tengah), and inner (offal), all surrounded by walls and gates. Candi Bentar is the name of the gate, while Candi Kurung serves as the entry. To the south of Central Jaba, there is a Kulkul Hall (wooden bell). Meanwhile, in the northwest corner is the Bengong Hall, which was utilized during the royal age as a rest area for the King’s family to watch the atmosphere outside the palace. In addition, there is a beji, or royal bath, in front of the Tabanan Building. The roof of the fibers is only used for the roof of the temple building.

After drying, the ore is stir-fried in a preheated frying pan until cooked, giving off the characteristic aroma of Bali’s famous Luwak coffee. The roasted coffee beans will next be processed into a fine powder, similar to coffee powder.
